Today's broad subject is Complete Fabrication which is just my way to tell you this story is totally made up. You know not true, fiction, a big fat lie or however you prefer to look at it. I will have to tell you if I'm going to keep this up week after week your going to have to do your part and give my some ideas to write about. I don't mind the writing it's coming up with something to write about that is hard for me. Especially when I have to make up the whole thing. So here it goes.
A brightly colored butterfly flew over the shimmering clover field as a slight breeze blew her thin brown hair across her face while she sat picking clovers. She intently looked at each one wanting to find a four leaf clover. Her older brother Jimmy had found one last week and she had wanted one more then anything else, at least in the last week.
she had to be careful since the clovers was in full bloom and the large bumble bees were slowly flying from one flower to another. She wasn't scared of them because she had seen Jimmy and his friends catch them in there hands then shake them up and throw them at each other. Nobody had got stung until one of his friends had accidently smashed one in his hands. she had never heard a boy scream like that before. So Jenifer continue to pick through the clover one by one.
Jenifer had been out in the field all day. She even went to dinner and came back out. Her parents didn't mind her being here because they could see her from the front door. Now she was getting impatient because she hadn't had any luck so far and she thought about giving up and making a flower chin until the sun went down. One time she and her friends had made one longer then the four of them together. She was just about to give up when she saw it not two inches from her had. It was a big perfect four leaf clover. she started to reach for it when she say something pink through a little hole in the clover. The hole was smaller then a dime and she saw the pink spot gleaming in the sun move from one side to the other.
Jenifer was in second grade and had spent a lot of her life playing outside yet she had never seen something that was shiny hot pink and moved. She totally forgot about the four leaf clover as she quickly dug through the clover to find the pink bug she had just saw. She saw the pink dot with two light green wings that you could see through. she grabbed the small tiny wings and lifted the bug up in front of her face. what she saw totally amazed her.
She immediately dropped the specimen into her other hand closed it tight. Getting up from the field she walked quickly across the field holding her hand as close to perfectly still as she could manage. It seemed that it took forever to get to the street that ran between the field and her house. She was so preoccupied with what she had seen that she didn't hesitate or look before she crossed the street.
Jenifer heard the squeal of the tires as the pickup truck bored down on her. She let out a small squeal as the scream stuck in her throat as she closed her eyes and jumped back. she stumbled backwards and fell. Her elbow struck the curb as her head bounced off the grassy field. She opened her eyes and saw that the pick-up trucks front tire was only inches from the bottom of her pink sandals. She could hear and feel her heart beating rapidly in her chest.
The man in his early twenties sprung from his old black pick up truck and ran toward the girl. "Please God don't let her be hurt." he muttered as he rounded his front bumper and just as the last word tumbled out of his mouth he saw her sitting there holding her elbow with her open hand. "Are you ok?" the man said with a sigh of relief.
Jennifer didn't answer she just shook her head yes as her eyes watered and threatened to spill over.
"'I"m so sorry." the man said as he helped her to her feet. "I didn't see you." at this Jenifer sniffled stifling the tears from spilling down her checks.
"I'm OK." she managed to get out in a small weak voice.
"Are you sure?" and Jenifer shook her head again. "Let me see that elbow." and Jenifer took her hand away. He saw a small bump and a few scratches barley bleeding. "Can you move it?" she moved her arm up and down. "How about your hand can you open and close it."
"I'm fine." Jenifer said wiping her eyes with her open hand.
"Well do you think we should talk to your parents about what happened" Jenifer's heart jumped a little at the idea of her explaining to her parents that she had crossed the street without looking. Something they had drilled into her head since she was two.
Jenifer shook her head no and her eyes became a little wet again. "I won't tell." she said as she looked down at her sandals.
"OK if that's the way you want it." and both of them relaxed a little, Most of the time he would have not agreed to not telling the parents but at the time he had been messing with his radio and felt guilty about that. She had come out of a open field with no cars around and he had almost killed her when it should have never even been close. "Well I'm glad your ok, make sure you watch what your doing from now on." he said as he turned around and got back into his truck
She waited until he left before she glanced up at the glass storm door of her house hoping she wouldn't see her mother standing there with that disappointed look that she always got when Karen had done something wrong. Thankfully it was Sunday and her dad was watching football with her brother. The TV was always louder when football was on. When her mother had complained he simple stated "Leave us alone we are watching the game." and her mom had let it drop and went back into the kitchen to bake some goodies.
Jenifer's knuckles were white and she loosened her grip a little and prayed that it wasn't hurt. She heard the game blaring from the living room before she reached the front door opening the door she turned right and went strait down the hallway to her room hoping her mother wouldn't see her from the kitchen. She couldn't close her door fast enough and ran over to her bed opening her hand and spilling the content onto her bedspread.
There on the bed was the most incredible thing anyone had ever seen. There on her bed was a tiny being with the height of a dime with the tips of it's tiny wings sticking up slightly above it's hot pink glittering hair. It looked like a girl but it was so small that Karen couldn't be for sure. she backed up to her desk not taking her eye off the being for a split second. she open the drawer and only snuck a peek at the contents before grabbing her magnifying glass and returning to the bed. she held the glass in front of her and moved it back and forth until she could see the biggest clear image of the well. . . . . . . fairy was the best description she could think of.
Now she could plainly see that it was a female and it looked pretty sad. "Its ok" she said in a soft soothing voice but the fairy didn't change its posture it just stared at her sad and a little scared. "Are you ok?" she asked in the same small soothing voice but still the fairy didn't respond. Then all of a sudden she sit down and looked at her legs. "It's ok I'm not going to hurt you." Jenifer pleaded but the fairy sat there starring down.
Jenifer took her finger and put it on the bed and slowly advanced it towards the fairy and at this the fairy jumped up and backed away looking angry. Jenifer hadn't really noticed until just now but the fairies small clothes look kind of like cocoon material. kind of a dirty white grey and a little bit shiny. It looked like a one piece that covered her from her neck down only her hands and feet stuck out.
Her hands basically looked like Karen except it looked like she had three fingers and a thumb but her hands were so small it was hard to tell until Karen adjusted the magnifying glass and verified that she only had three fingers. Here feet though were big compared to her size and looked like lion paws with fur that matched the skin on her face and hands which was the straw color like a lioness. Her face looked just like Jenifer's except her eyes were bigger compared to her face and purple. Her Tiny little nose was turned up on the end.
When Jenifer took her hand away the fairy seemed to relax and pulled the tip of one of her wings over her shoulder and started stroking the tip down hand over hand like girls with long hair did some times. All of a sudden the creature took off and disappeared Jenifer started looking around but couldn't see the fairy anywhere. She panicked and thought oh no I've lost it as she jumped up and spun around in circles trying to locate the hot pink dot.
she felt something land on her elbow and she came within inches of slapping it. she spun her elbow around so she could see it and she felt a very slight stinging. Jenifer used the magnifying glass to see what was happening and could see the fair standing slightly below the elbow. The front claws of her feet paws were dug into her skin and her hands seemed to be sticking kind of like a fly. The small area that the claws were dug in burned slightly but Jenifer was scared to move for fear of what the tiny girl might do to her. After all the fairy seemed to look like an adult and even though she wasn't taller then a dime Jenifer was still scared of what it might do to her.
Jenifer held statue still while the fairy started climbing up her arm. When it got to the scratches on her arm it stopped and looked up with her deep purple eyes with a slight smile on her face it buried its face into the wound and the pain was excruciating. Jenifer's eyes rolled into the back of her head and she fell onto her bed. The sound of the Football game started to fade away and blackness took over.
"Honey it's time for school." Jenifer's mother said shaking her shoulder. Jenifer moaned. "Come on sleepy head you scared the Be gees out of us last night." It all came flooding back and she sprung out of her bed and immediately looked at her elbow. There was nothing there. The bump was gone also with the scratches. "What's wrong with you?" her mother said with laughter in her voice. "Did you have a bad dream or something." Jenifer had learned from her brother that if you wanted to stop talking to your parents the easiest way was just to agree with them.
"Ya I think I did" she croaked
"Ok get ready for school." her mother said while hugging her then she left the room. Jenifer looked everywhere quickly but could see no sign of the fairy anywhere. She grabbed the magnifying glass off the night stand took a close look at her elbow. There was no sign of her injuries she had collected on the street yesterday but something was different. right on the tip of her elbow was a tiny hot pink dot. it was barely visible even with the magnifying glass but it was there all the same.
Jenifer was sitting at her table with her two small children playing on the floor beside her. She was cutting a flower out of paper for a scrap book with a hobby knife when it slipped and caught her index finger that was holding the paper still. blood dripped on the table as she grabbed it and squeezed as it started to burn like cuts do. she took her hand away just in time to see it heal in a split second. A slight smile touched the corners of her mouth and she looked at her elbow even though she couldn't see the dot without a magnifier she knew it was still there.
Karen never knew what became of the fairy but she would always have a special place in her heart.
See now you understand why I had to tell you this was fiction. Just imagine the pandemonium that would have ensued if I hadn't. Grown adults pushing kid out of the way in clover fields. Big Pharmaceutical company's buying all the clover fields and putting in guard towers with mercenaries while teams of scientists combing the fields with all kind of technical devices. It wouldn't have done any good though because fairies don't live in clover fields they just pass through them sometimes.
I like the name of the story. Cute. The story is good one. Did you dream it? And was that you yelling at the wife to get in the kitchen and make goodies? Lol
ReplyDeleteI just made it up as I went but when the wife reads your comment and realizes what I've done you probable won't here from me again. Thanks a lot. I thought you knew better by now.
DeleteGlad you mentioned in the first paragraph that this was fiction, had you not I woulda looking for clover fields. :-) Bravo Brad
ReplyDeleteYou ever think I just might of said that to throw you off the trail. After all I did work for the government.
